The origins of the Taberna Sidrería El Fontán come from the professional experience of its proprietors Juan Carlos and Roberto Parrondo, Asturians from the old Plaza de Arista near the historic food market of El Fontán next to the Oviedo Cathedral. In 1998 they decide to open a small tavern in Madrid, Carlos Tartiere, and after years of success, in 2009 they embark on a new venture to offer a wider gastronomic choice inaugurating the Coupazín Restaurant, both in Menorca Street in the central district of the Retiro.
Our restaurants are noted for the two distinct atmospheres within. The “Sidrería” area where customers can enjoy and savour the tapas, pinchos and cider poured in traditional Asturian fashion and the Restaurant area with our menu that excels in Asturian cuisine and, together with fish and meat dishes defines us for our quality products and distinguishes us, always faithful to our philosophy “Producto, plancha y pasión” (Product, pan and passion).
- Products: The best fresh food and if possible always local and in season.
- The Pan (griddle): Cooking our food simply without masking its flavour or quality.
- Our passion: Soul, feeling and know-how.
In 2016 the Taberna el Fontán is inaugurated in the Plaza de Canalejas near the Puerta del Sol in the heart of Madrid, honouring the gastronomic origins of the tavern, a place to offer international visitors a flavour of Asturias and a way of understanding our cuisine and everything that surrounds it.
In our menu you will find a wide range of tapas and raciones, with the authentic flavour of an Asturian Cider House and traditional Madrid bar coming together to offer our customers cuisine of the highest level.
A place to share and really enjoy the time spent here in the best of company.
